Autumn is always and extremely busy and challenging time of Year. With the night’s drawing in and weather deteriorating, it is always a race against time to gather our harvest, put our orchards to bed and plant winter crops on our arable fields.

What’s happening this Autumn

THIS AUTUMN…

  • We are busy trying to sell Bramley apples into a challenging market despite a national yield reduction of 28%!

  • Delivery of our new cider apple harvester will present a steep learning curve.

  • It will be interesting to see whether the purchase of a new hooklift trailer improves transporting apples from orchards to the farm

  • An incredibly late wheat harvest has set back planting overwintering cover crops

  • We face a late apple harvest but with reasonable yields

  • Badly timed deadlines mean a distraction of having to make assessment of new opportunities for a countryside stewardship scheme starting next year

  • We hope to further develop markets for cider & apple juice

  • With our Perry pear trees coming into cropping, we will be crafting our first significant volumes of Perry.
